A squirrel trapped in a manhole cover is seen in Isenhagen, northern Germany. Police managed to free the animal by using olive oil.

No no, it didn’t. Not this one. I read the full Spiegel article and it said shortly before that there had been a similar case, but they had brought the whole lid including squirrel to a vet, and there sawed it open to get the squirrel out. That one died from stress. But this one survived, possibly because it all went much faster and without a loud and horribly rattling saw anywhere near the animal. (And olive oil is great for the fur, I expect ^^ )
